About Richard Cunningham

Richard Cunningham is Director of the Areopagus Trust, whose aim is: To mentor, train, and encourage public-facing Christian leaders who seem to be presented with both the toughest challenges and the greatest opportunities for witness and influence. The focus is on pastors, emerging speakers/evangelists, those working in politics and government, journalists, professional musicians, and artists.

Richard studied at London University and subsequently trained for Ordination in Oxford. He has previously worked as the Student Pastor at St Helen's Church Bishopsgate and as Director of Evangelism at St Andrew's Church Oxford. From 2004 to 2024 was the CEO of UCCF: The Christian Unions.

Richard was a founding co-conveynor of the European Leadership Forum and a member of the Archbishop's College of Evangelists. Richard was Trustee of Proclamation Trust for 20 years and a founding Trustee of the Cornhill Training Course in Scotland.

Richard has been a popular speaker at University Missions in the UK and overseas for over 30 years. He was also a founder, Vice-Chair and regular plenary speaker at Word Alive- a large Christian Convention that ran for over 16 years.

Richard is licensed as a Minister in the Oxford Diocese of the Church of England and regularly preaches at All Saints, Churchill.

He and Ruth have been welcoming groups to their home for over 30 years. They are passionate to help Christians be confident in the truth, relevance and beauty of the gospel and equipped for engaging and effective witnesses in all of life.

Richard is the author of various apologetic and evangelistic booklets and training manuals including ‘Discovering Christianity’ (published by UCCF 1994) and the ‘Bethinking’ series (Dragon Publishing from 20011 to 2016).
